From 5 April to 27 July 2014 the Victoria & Albert Museum in London is hosting “The Glamour of Italian Fashion. 1945 – 2014”, a major exhibition recounting the phenomenon of Made in Italy style.

Through very careful archival research, the exhibition traces almost 70s of the history of Italian fashion through the creations of the greatest designers as well as photographs and videos that gather together valuable testimonies from ambassadors of Italian style and master craftsmen. It starts from the post-war period, when couturiers such as the Fontana sisters and Mila Schön took their creations to the catwalks of the White Hall in Palazzo Pitti under the guidance of Giovan Battista Giorgini; next the big names of Italian prêt-à-porter have their turn in a section featuring Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Valentino, Gianfranco Ferré, Krizia, Salvatore Ferragamo, Fendi, Gucci, Prada and Dolce&Gabbana. Then there is the new generation of Made in Italy talents, represented by the creative directors of Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, as well as Giambattista Valli, Fausto Puglisi and Stella Jean.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Tuesday 1st April in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and some of the most eminent representatives of Italian fashion: Valentino Garavani, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Eva Cavalli, former creative director of Gucci Tom Ford, editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani, and models Eva Herzigova and Naomi Campbell, the stars of the Milanese catwalks in the 1990s.
