Frida Giannini celebrates 50 years of Gucci in Japan

On the eve of her tenth anniversary as Creative Director at Gucci, Frida Giannini decided to participate in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the first Gucci store in Japan. It was 1964 when on Miyuki Street, in Tokyo’s Ginza, Gucci opened its first flagship store in that country.

A tight schedule of public obligations awaited Frida Giannini and President and CEO Patrizio Di Marco in Japan. Once again Gucci confirmed its commitment to social responsibility by organizing a charity dinner in honour of the National Federation of the UNESCO Associations at Ryogoku Kokugikan in the evening of October 25th. UNESCO has been partnering with Gucci since the start of the “UNESCO Association Scholarship – Gucci Scholar” programme in 2012. During the charity dinner Gucci donated UNESCO the total revenue from the sales of the limited-edition silk Flora foulard launched at the beginning of the year.

Frida Giannini also visited the Sendai students who will benefit from the “Gucci Scholar” fund. During her visit, an artisan showed them the manufacturing of leather accessories. The initiative reaffirms children’s right to education and is intended to make grants available.

The journey was also the occasion for Frida Giannini to show the spring/summer 2015 men’s and women’s collections in a private event at yu-un house in Azabu.
