TOMMASO LA SALA

My name is Tommaso La Sala, I am 23 years old and I graduated in Fashion Design from the Costume and Fashion Academy in Rome. I’m originally from Erice, a medieval village in western Sicily. Eryx, Iruka, Gabel-el-Hamid, Monte San Giuliano—these are names that the mountain has taken on throughout its various dominations. Iruka is the title of my first women's collection, which tells a story of the island that breaks away from stereotypes: notions of Sicily and Sicilian identity as clichés fade away, leaving only the fog and winter behind.

The project evokes the essential lines of a black silk cloak in a collection of women's garments that sees in the wind that vital intuition necessary to free fashion from the dust of the past. In the creative process, one can observe the reaction of the cloak animated by the strong winds of the mountain, following the four phases of Galileo Galilei's experimental method, applying it to basic men's garments. The lapels of the jackets lift, and the shirts sway back and forth, forming messy, almost extravagant folds.
