International Roundtable on Sustainability 2018
On 20 March 2018, in Milan, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana in partnership with Swarovski held the 2nd International Roundtable on Sustainability.
In keeping with the continuous commitment of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and its Commission on Sustainability aimed at promoting the diffusion of sustainable practices within the fashion and textile supply chain, the International Roundtable on Sustainability stands out as a fundamental moment for the circulation and exchange of competences and information among the most important actors of the sustainable revolution occurring in the luxury fashion world.
In the morning, a plenary session was introduced by the speech of CNMI Chairman Carlo Capasa, who will put the focus on Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana’s latest results towards a more sustainable industry. Among them, the release of the “Guidelines on the eco-toxicological requirements for chemical mixtures and industrial discharges”, as well as a new research, developed in collaboration with Associazione Tessile Salute, on carcinogenic aromatic amines. This precious document, - created with the support of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, ISMAC - Istituto per lo studio delle Macromolecole, chemical company Farbotex and the Innovative Research Laboratory for Wound Healing of the Università del Piemonte Orientale, - confirms the parameters limiting the use of amines defined by the “Guidelines on the eco-toxicological requirements for articles of clothing, leather goods, footwear, accessories”, published by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana in 2016.
Following Carlo Capasa’s speech, a series of eminent figures will take the stage and will be introduced by Journalist and Author Elizabeth L. Cline. They include Pascal Morand, Executive President of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, Dax Lovegrove, Global Vice President of Sustainability at Swarovski, Confindustria Moda President Claudio Marenzi, Eco-Age Founder and Creative Director Livia Firth, and the Journalist Simran Sethi, along with representatives of prestigious international institutions, such as the European Union Economic Committee, the World Bank Group, the United Nations, the Ministry for the Environment, Territory and Sea and the MIT.
In the afternoon, three roundtables put the accent on specific themes, including the use of chemicals in production cycles, the digital transformation of the fashion supply chain and the creation of a circular industry.
