FASHIONS CHANGE, FORESTS STAY

On 10 October 2024, the "Fashion Change, Forest Stays" workshop was held at Castello Piombino-Francobaldi, organised by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, PEFC and UNECE.

The workshop aims to empower professionals with the knowledge and tools to assess current forest materials and biodiversity policies, establish meaningful sustainability targets, and explore actionable solutions for driving progress in sustainable materials management.

Moderated by Paola Deda, Director, Forests, Land and Housing Division at UNECE, the workshop consisted in 4 parts:

A.      FORESTS

Florian Steierer, Economic Affairs Officer at UNECE and Antonio Brunori, Secretary General at PEFC Italy

-            An overview of the world’s forests.

-            Going beyond risk mitigation to forest-positive action in fashion supply chains.

 B.      MMCF TRACEABILITY

Julia Kozlik, Market Engagement Manager and Textile Program Lead at PEFC International

 

-            Forests in the context of the MMCF (man-made cellulosic fibres) sourcing and fashion industry.

-            Traceability from the forests to the supply chain to the garment.

-            Challenges and opportunities in the fashion industry

 C.     GREEN CLAIMS

-            New drivers: Legislation and Consumer expectations (present new study).
